About this work

An engraved townscape shows a dense row of rooftops and chimneys rising toward a large gabled building with pinnacled towers on the upper right. In the foreground a classical pedimented building with rows of windows stands beside a street where a horse and cart and several figures are visible. A sailboat rests on a body of water beneath distant hills, all rendered in fine parallel hatching. The print is attributed to John Thomas Smith and dated 1807.
