About this work

This engraved print, titled in its inscription as the Danish fleet and batteries off Copenhagen, depicts the naval engagement of 2 April 1801 with warships under sail, billowing smoke, and an explosion amid the water. Small boats and men struggling in the waves fill the foreground, and the dedication text is set beneath the scene.
