About this work
A procession of dark-clad mourners moves along a winding path across a sloping, ochre-toned hillside beneath a fiery red sky. A figure in a clerical robe and cap leads the crowd, while a lone figure stands on the crest of the hill with a few distant figures and ruined structures silhouetted against the horizon. This 1917 print by Walter Gramatté is titled Leichenbegängnis, or Funeral Procession.
