About this work
An oval etching titled Silenus shows a bearded, open-mouthed male profile crowned with a wreath of oak leaves and acorns, set against a densely hatched background with draped cloth at the shoulder. The print, after a drawing by John Hamilton Mortimer, was etched by R. Blyth and published in 1779.
