About this work
An etching titled In the Meshes by Charles Frederick William Mielatz, dated 1887, shows two carp caught in a rippling fishing net. The fish are rendered in fine tonal lines with textured scales, while the net's diagonal mesh and swirling water fill the sepia-toned composition. A small net is drawn in the lower left corner, and the artist's signature appears at the lower right.
