About this work
This etching, titled Importunate and made by Albert Besnard in 1900, shows a seated woman in a pale dress at a table with bottles, while a skeletal figure stands in the shadows at right. A hooded figure looms behind her, and the dark, hatched background contrasts sharply with the lit figure. The composition depicts a macabre encounter between the living and death.
