About this work
An etching titled Apotheosis (L'Apothéose) by Albert Besnard, dated 1886, shows a nude female figure seated and leaning back with her arms raised above her head and her face turned upward. Loose, curving hatched lines suggest drifting clouds and draped forms around her, and the pencil-like marks of the plate give the figure a sense of upward movement. The lower left corner carries a handwritten edition notation and the lower right bears the artist's signature.
