About this work
An etched forest scene shows large oak trees with spreading, gnarled branches rising above boulders and undergrowth. Light breaks through the canopy in small patches, contrasting with the dark shadowed areas beneath the trees. This 1861 print by Théodore Rousseau is titled Chenes de Roche (Rock Oaks).
