About this work
An etching titled The Rape (Le Viol) by Albert Besnard, dated 1886, shows a woman in a flowing long skirt reaching out to grip a doorframe while a man embraces her from behind against a dark wall. Dense cross-hatching models the shadowed background and floor, contrasting with the pale open door at left. The sheet is held in the Wikimedia Commons collection and bears handwritten annotations in the margin.
