About this work
A lithographic theatre poster for the opéra comique Don César de Bazan, with music by J. Massenet, shows a swaggering man in a plumed hat and period costume resting a hand on his hip and holding a sword hilt. A younger seated companion sits beside a wine bottle, glass and dice against a backdrop of rooftops and a distant city. The work is credited to Célestin François Nanteuil and dated 1872, and was published in Paris by G. Hartmann.
