About this work
This painting by Giuseppe Canella shows a sunlit cobbled street with timber-framed houses, shopfronts bearing signs such as LE BON and MANON, and figures in period dress going about their business. A large Gothic cathedral with tall spires rises in the background, and the painted signature and date reading Canella 1831 Chartres appear at the lower left.
