About this work
This grisaille-toned drawing shows an enthroned central female figure holding a banner, flanked by a winged figure and a standing woman reading a scroll. A boy and a kneeling woman occupy the foreground, while a crowd of women and a lyre player fill the background beneath an eagle emblem. The Glorificação do Poder Legislativo cartoon, by Eliseu Visconti, dates from 1922 and was made as a study for the central panel of the Deveres da Cidade triptych at the Palácio Pedro Ernesto in Rio de Janeiro.
