About this work

This black-and-white bookplate design by Eliseu Visconti, dated 1903, shows a woman in profile before a large globe displaying the Americas. Books line the shelves behind her, a quill rests in her hand, and an open book lies on the desk, with the words BIBLIOTHECA NACIONAL DO RIO DE JANEIRO arched around the globe. Three small reproductions of the design appear in the lower part of the sheet.
