About this work

This study shows a decorative grid of figurative tiles set within a repeating floral border, drawn in brown ink and wash. The framed compartments contain a bearded man in profile, a reclining woman, a child, and a figure in a wide-brimmed hat, while the border is filled with stylized leaves and blossoms. Eliseu Visconti created this design in 1897 as a study for a floor decoration.
