About this work
The painting shows the Adoration of the Magi, with an elderly king in a red robe and fur collar kneeling to offer a gold vessel to the infant Christ on the lap of the Virgin Mary. Two attendants stand behind, one holding a gilded cup and the other a covered vessel, and a red apple rests on the ledge at lower right. The work is attributed to Lucas Cranach the Elder.
