About this work

Two Children by Paul Gauguin, dated 1890, shows two young children seated side by side in a pink upholstered sofa against a bright yellow wall with a floral pattern. The older girl on the left wears a dark blue dress with a white collar and looks directly out, while the younger child on the right, with pale hair and a fur-trimmed blue coat, rests a hand on a small object. The flat areas of saturated color and simplified forms are typical of the artist's work.
