About this work
A man in a dark cloak and wide-brimmed hat sits on a stone in a sunlit meadow, writing on loose sheets of paper held on his knee. Leafy trees frame the left side while a bright yellow-green field opens toward the background. This illustration by Howard Pyle was published in Harper's Magazine in 1910.
