About this work

A rainy Parisian street scene shows pedestrians in period dress, a uniformed officer in red trousers, and a horse-drawn carriage stopped before the arched entrance of a theatre bearing the name Vaudeville. Bare trees and gas-style street lamps line the wet boulevard, and a signed date of 1889 appears in the lower right corner, attributed to Jean Béraud.
