About this work

This painting shows a log cabin with a wooden plank roof, a brick chimney, and a dirt yard where a family gathers, with a woman standing at a washing table and a man seated near the doorway. Chickens peck at the ground, laundry hangs over a split-rail fence, and a warm, cloudy sky spreads over the open field.
