A pencil drawing shows a battlefield with soldiers and mounted cavalry moving across an open field near a wooded hillside lined with pine trees. Fallen figures lie scattered across the slope beside a split-rail fence. The work is by Edwin Forbes, dated 1864, and its handwritten inscription refers to the Battlefield of Spotsylvania C.H. May 10th 1864.
