About this work
A pencil sketch shows the interior of a makeshift theatre with a painted stage backdrop of a river scene with a sailboat and trees. Painted drapery panels with a shield crest and an eagle frame the stage, while seated audience members and uniformed soldiers fill the foreground benches. The work is dated 1864 and is attributed to Edwin Forbes.
