About this work
A pencil drawing on paper showing three studies of rough log and bark shelters, including a soldier chopping wood beside a hut, a turf-covered dugout with a seated figure and hanging laundry, and a canvas tent with smoke rising from it. Handwritten notes label the sketches, including 'Deserted Picket Hut' and a dated inscription of February 12, 1863 referencing the 117th Pennsylvania Brigade. The work is attributed to Edwin Forbes and dated 1863.
