About this work

A pencil drawing on tan paper shows a log hut with stacked barrels and a rough stone chimney built against its side, while a standing figure in a long coat and cap stands in the foreground. Scattered debris, a leaning frame, and a fence and bare trees fill the surrounding ground. The sheet is inscribed 'Rappahannock Station, Jan 13' and dated 1864, and is attributed to Edwin Forbes.
