About this work
A pencil drawing shows a wartime battlefield with infantry advancing along a road toward a brick house flanked by bare trees, while artillery teams with horses stand near a small structure in the middle distance. Rising smoke fills the sky above a tree line, and a mounted officer rides across the foreground beside a fallen horse. Edwin Forbes made this drawing in 1863, and the handwritten caption identifies it as an attack on the Union position at the Chancellorsville House.
