About this work
A pencil sketch on laid paper shows a standing female figure in a flowing draped robe and plumed headdress, one arm raised and the other resting on a balustrade beside steps. Handwritten notes at upper right read as a design for Columbia in place of the original figure in the transparency at Washington Hall, and the sheet is marked with a faint grid and numbered annotations. The drawing is attributed to John Rubens Smith and dated 1795.
