About this work
A brown-toned drawing shows a weathered log cabin with a stone chimney and partly collapsed shingle roof beside a dirt road. Two horses with packsaddles stand near a tree, while a man in civilian clothes holds a bundle and two uniformed soldiers stand nearby, with a seated figure and tents in the background. The work is titled "The 'reliable contraband'" and was made by Edwin Forbes in 1876.
