About this work
A pencil sketch shows soldiers advancing across an open field past split-rail fencing toward a tree line, with a flag bearer and small log cabins in the distance. Handwritten annotations along the lower edge describe the troops' attempt to advance across the open ground. The work is attributed to Edwin Forbes and dated 1864.
