About this work
A pencil sketch by Edwin Forbes, dated 1863, shows a wide rural landscape with a river valley, a distant farmhouse, and clusters of smoke marking artillery fire. Numbered markings indicate troop positions, and handwritten annotations along the lower margin describe the attack on General Sedgwick's corps and the Rappahannock crossing.
