About this work
A pencil drawing shows a wooded road lined with tall pines, where a covered army wagon and mounted riders move along the track. Foot soldiers lead a pack mule in the foreground, and a campfire burns beside a split-rail fence at right. The work is titled The Army of the Potomac on the march from the Chicahominy (sic) to the James River, by Edwin Forbes, dated 1864.
