A pencil and wash sketch shows a standing military officer in a buttoned uniform and kepi, reading a folded letter held in one hand while his other hand rests at his waist beside a sword. Loose graphite and wash strokes fill the background and a faint sketch of a second figure appears at lower left, with a handwritten note reading 'Sketch on the other side' at the bottom.
