About this work
A pencil sketch on grey-toned paper shows a Zouave soldier seen from behind, wearing a fez with a tassel and a loose jacket with a sash and pouch at the waist. Handwritten color notes annotate the uniform, and the sheet is inscribed "Petersburg Aug 1864" and "114th P.V." Alfred Waud made this drawing in 1864.
