About this work
A wash and graphite drawing shows artillery crews firing cannons across a battlefield while mounted riders and a wagon move through the foreground. Smoke clouds drift over the rolling terrain, and handwritten notes at the upper left describe the scene as a later moment in the fight at White Oak Swamp Bridge. The work is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1862.
