About this work
A pencil sketch with touches of colour shows a paddle steamer with masts, rigging and several flags flying, sailing on open water with smaller vessels nearby. The handwritten inscription identifies it as Admiral Dahlgren's flagship Philadelphia off Charleston, dated 1863, and the work is attributed to Alfred Waud.
