About this work
A pencil drawing presents two vessels in side profile on a pale tan ground. The upper sketch shows the U.S. gunboat Louisiana with three masts, rigging, a smokestack and a flag at the stern, while the lower sketch shows the rebel steamer Yorktown, a paddle-wheel steamer with two masts and smokestacks. Handwritten captions identify each vessel, and the work is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1860.
