About this work
A pencil sketch on tan paper shows a row of two-story buildings with dormer windows and chimneys beside a wide open field crossed by railroad tracks. Bare deciduous trees rise behind the buildings, and a few figures stand near the storefronts. The handwritten inscription in the lower left reads Culpepper, Va. and the work is attributed to Alfred Waud, dated 1863.
