About this work
A charcoal and white chalk drawing on tan paper shows a battlefield with dense ranks of soldiers advancing across an open field under smoky, cloud-like clouds. Mounted officers and figures with raised arms appear in the foreground, and handwritten notes at the bottom read "Sept. 19th. Crooks Corps storming the fort. Battle of Opequon - 2nd battle of Winchester." The work is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1864.
