About this work
A charcoal and white chalk sketch on brown paper shows infantry advancing through a wooded battlefield under drifting smoke, with a mounted officer at the right edge. The handwritten annotation at the bottom reads 'Sept 19th 10.30 AM, Rickett's advance against Rhodes division in the woods.' The drawing is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1864.
