About this work
A grey-brown wash drawing with white highlights shows the US sloop Pawnee and the gunboat Freeborn firing across calm water toward distant shore batteries, with smoke clouds rising from the guns and a railroad depot and wharf visible in the background. Handwritten labels on the sheet identify each vessel and the rebel batteries. The work is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1861.
