About this work
A pencil and wash drawing shows a paddle steamer aground on a sandy shore, tilted toward the beach with its smokestack, masts and rigging visible. Soldiers in red uniforms stand near the vessel, and a fort with a flag is visible in the distance. The work is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1863.
