About this work

A pencil sketch on tan paper shows three men in military dress standing in an open landscape, with a horse at right and a small distant figure at left. Handwritten notes in the lower margin read 'McClellan looking at the fight' and refer to the fight in the cornfield on the back of the sketch. The work is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1862.
