A pencil drawing on toned paper shows a seated man in a military-style uniform with buttoned jacket and shoulder insignia, drawn in profile with his legs crossed. Smaller studies of a head and a pair of boots appear at left, with handwritten annotations reading "Provost Marshal" and "McLean." The sheet is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1862.
