About this work
Two pencil sketches show a sailing gunboat with a large mainsail and a paddle steamer with a paddle wheel, smokestack and an American flag, drawn in side profile over water. Handwritten notes on the sheet label the vessels and describe them as new gunboats. The work is catalogued as a drawing by Alfred Waud, dated 1860.
