About this work
A pencil drawing on brown paper shows the U.S. gunboat Daylight under sail on calm water, with three masts, rigging, a smokestack, and an American flag at the stern. Handwritten inscription beneath the vessel identifies it as the U.S. Gun Boat Daylight with lateen sails, a sort of polacca rig. The sketch is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1860.
