About this work

A pencil sketch on a sketchbook page shows a wooden trestle bridge crossing a river with wooded hills behind it and foliage in the foreground. Handwritten notes at the top and bottom read that the bridge is over the Monocacy, the scene of Lew Wallace's battle with Early, dated 1864, and that it was destroyed during the fighting and replaced by a temporary structure. The work is attributed to Alfred Waud.
