A pencil drawing with white highlights shows several steamships and a sailing vessel with tall masts and rigging cutting through choppy, foaming waves under an overcast sky. Handwritten inscriptions at the lower edge read "For Ft. Fisher direct" and "The Expedition leaving the Chesapeake," and the work is attributed to Alfred Waud, dated 1864.
