About this work
A pencil sketch on tan paper shows the ironclad Patapsco at sea beside a fortified battery, with smoke rising from its stack and a flag flying at left. Handwritten notes on the sheet read "red top to stack" and "Patapsco engaging Sullivans Id. Batteries." The drawing is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1863.
