About this work
This wood engraving shows several vignettes of Union army life, including a railroad bridge over the Chickahominy, bridge builders at work on logs, and pickets from opposing sides sharing coffee and exchanging newspapers. A grave marker reading Teddy Hoyt, killed June 4, appears in the lower right.
