About this work
A charcoal and white chalk drawing on tinted paper shows a dense battle with infantry charging up a slope toward a fortification while smoke rises and fallen soldiers lie across the ground. A large American flag is planted among the advancing troops, and handwritten notes along the lower edge identify the 24th Corps and the Bristoe brigade. The work is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1865.
