About this work
A pencil sketch on tan paper shows a group of soldiers advancing through a wooded area with tall bare trees and undergrowth, with a ledge or rise to the right. Handwritten notes along the bottom and right edge describe rebels covered by a ledge of rock repulsing troops in the woods beyond the Dunker Church at Antietam. The work is attributed to Alfred Waud and dated 1862.
