About this work
A pencil sketch shows a paddle steamer with two tall masts, rigged sails, and twin smokestacks, with a small rowboat with a figure in it floating below. Handwritten notes on the sheet read "Turn over" and "Sketch - Russian War Ship," and a smaller sketch of a mast appears at the upper left. This drawing by Alfred Waud is dated 1860 and is held by Wikimedia Commons.
